Melodeon – 3 row 12 bass GCF

Chinese made two voice melodeon – 3 row treble buttons (in the keys of GCF) and 12 bass. This was sold by Gear4Music as a second, because it was badly out of tune. I tuned it – the factory tuning was terrible – so you can see/hear it in the video below.

These are great boxes if you can play a two row melodeon , but can’t afford ££££ for a Hohner Corona. The three row melodeon is a modest step up from a two row, because the fingering for each row is exactly the same as you find on your two row. You can also play across the rows exactly as you do on a two row, but with the added scope of a third row.

Stagi Anglo Concertina 30 key G/D (sold)

Stagi Gremlin 30 key Anglo concertina model W15E in the keys of G/D, Italian made. For some reason two reed plates had been fitted the wrong way up. I returned them to their proper position, to give the instrument the standard Wheatstone layout. The G/D Anglo concertina is possibly better suited to English music than the C/G (some might argue).

Hohner Student III (sold)

The Hohner Student III has 25 keys and 24 stradella bass, running from A to Ab, with maj, min and fundamental buttons. This would be a good accordion for someone who wants a lightweight but serious instrument, or for a learner. When restored (as this one was) these instruments make a marvellous sound because of their old reeds, which are mounted in zinc plates (modern reeds are normally mounted in aluminium plates). Hohner Lilliput Eb Bb

What can I say? These little boxes don’t quite have legendary status, but they are so dainty and very desirable. This one is in Eb Bb, a very nice key. It does require quite a bit of work – but it will have new bellows to replace the old ones, which are beyond repair. This one will be declubbed.

Hohner Double Ray BC

Discovered, as so often, in someone’s attic. This was an older Hohner Double Ray, with grey celluloid and a wooden keyboard. This was converted for a customer to a C#/D box.
