Scandalli PA from 1942

I thought I’d show you a few pictures of this lovely old accordion (which is sadly NOT for sale), shipped from the US. Scandalli makes beautiful accordions. They sound marvellous and have a light action. In particular the bass is as light as a feather to play and has perfect response.

The treble side on this instrument has three voices (clarinet and two flute … or LMM), with couplers to mix these. But note the couplers – instead of a symbolic representation  (little dots, which is what you see on modern accordions), they are labelled a bit like a church organ. ‘Orchestra’ is for all the reeds, tutti; ‘bandoneon’ is for the LM reeds i.e. an octave (like a bandoneon). You can probably work out what the other stops do.

A couple of other interesting things are, that it looks it was made at the end of 1942 (which makes it…quite old, and in great condition for its age) and also, it includes a little tool screwed under the grille, to release the keys, if or when that is ever required.
